A streaming app is an economy, not a video player
Rox LIVE carries live audio and video, but the parts that decide whether it works are the ones around the stream: animated gifts sent mid-broadcast, in-app games several viewers play at once, and the withdrawal flow a broadcaster uses to take earnings out.
That makes money and real-time state the same problem. A gift is a payment, an animation, a balance change for two people and a broadcast event, and viewers must not see those arrive out of order or twice.
High concurrency is the constraint
The interaction load scales with viewers per room rather than with users overall, so the traffic is bursty and localised. The real-time layer ran on Socket.IO with AWS behind it, and Google Pay handled the purchase side.
Role
Led development over roughly two years at Nisefy, for a UK-based client company. That included running user testing and keeping code quality up through regular review, which on a two-year product matters more than any individual feature in it.
Other engagements
I build AI features into production mobile apps, and stabilise the apps underneath them. See what working together looks like.
